About the Pediatric Neurosurgery Service
Weill Cornell's multidisciplinary approach insures that children are offered optimal treatment plans, which takes into account not only the disease but also lifetime implications. This perspective offers pediatric neurosurgery patients the best opportunity to enjoy a normal transition from child to adult. The program is nationally recognized for its leadership in the treatment of:
- Brain and spinal cord tumors
- Craniofacial anomalies
- Congenital malformations of the brain and spinal cord
- Chiari Malformation
- Epilepsy
- Head injuries resulting from trauma
- Hydrocephalus
- Movement disorders and spasticity
- Spinal instability and scoliosis
- Vascular malformations
The faculty have expertise in the following areas:
- Removal of intraventricular brain tumors
- Endoscopic intracranial surgery
- Tumors (colloid cyst, benign astrocytoma)
- Hydrocephalus (endoscopic third ventriculostomy)
- Congenital cysts (endoscopic fenestration)
- Treatment for Chiari malformations and syringomyelia
- Management of pineal region tumors
- Removal of intramedullary spinal cord tumors
- Correction of craniofacial disorders (cleft lip and/or cleft palate, craniosynostosis, hemifacial microsomia, vascular malformation, hemangioma, deformational (or positional) plagiocephaly)
- Multidisciplinary treatment of pediatric vascular abnormalities (arteriovenous malformations, Moyamoya disease, and cavernous malformations)
Weill Cornell's pediatric neurosurgery team is closely allied with the Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
