Dr. Greenfield Awarded Grant for Research on How Low-Grade Pediatric Tumors Transform Into Malignancies

Dr. Souweidane Receives $97K Grant to Support DIPG Research
Dr. Mark Souweidane has been given a gift of $97,000 from The Cure Starts Now to support his research into children's brain tumors. Dr. Souweidane recently received approval to begin an innovative new trial testing Convection Enhanced Delivery (CED) to deliver a radioactive agent directly to the site of the pontine glioma, bypassing the blood-brain barrier. FDA Approves Milestone Clinical Trial for DIPG
Dr. Mark Souweidane, Director of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, has received FDA approval for a clinical trial for young patients diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Dr. Souweidane is the Principal Investigator on the clinical trial, which will use a novel surgical technique (convection-enhanced delivery, or CED) to deliver a tumor-fighting agent directly to the site of the glioma, bypassing the blood-brain barrier that prevents most drugs from reaching these deadly brain stem cancers in children. Three "All-Star" Awards Presented at Second Annual Lids4Kids Event
The Weill Cornell Pediatric Brain and Spine Center hosted the second annual Lids4Kids event on June 18, 2011. Awards were presented to Kelly DeMarrais and Connor Ventura, young athletes who shared their Chiari surgery stories as a way of inspiring others, and Patti Ventura, whose tireless fund-raising and awareness campaigns have been an enormous benefit to patients and families.
Beating Tumor, Then Live at the Apollo
Six-year old Danion Jones, a patient of Dr. Mark Souweidane, performed at Amateur Night at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem. Dr. Souweidane, who came to cheer Danion on, said, "Once I've treated someone, he's my patient for life!" Watch the New York Times video.
