New Cornell Collaboration to Set "Platinum Standard" in Patient Services

Over the last eight years, the Department of Neurological Surgery has forged several research collaborations with Cornell University, Ithaca Campus. Recently, it has ventured into a new and innovative direction to improve patient service - in fact, to set the "Platinum Standard" in patient care service. Spearheaded by Department Administrator Richard Paddy, a partnership has been established between the Department of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, the Sloan Program in Health Administration (Cornell's College of Human Ecology), and the Cornell School of Hotel Administration. This unique alliance will allow the students with the opportunity to design and develop an innovative customer service training program for health care. The project began during the Fall semester and will continue through the entire academic year with an implementation and evaluation phase during the Spring. Deborah Als, Practice manager for Neurological Surgery, will monitor activities and manage the implementation of the new program as it directly affects patients in the private practice setting. The new patient service approach will not only upgrade "best practices," but serve as a model for the WCMC Physician Organization in helping improve patient service throughout the Medical College. The Department of Neurological Surgery looks forward to this and future collaborations with the Sloan Program in Health Administration and the Cornell School of Hotel Administration.
