About The New York Brain Tumor Center

The New York Brain Tumor Center at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center is one of the country's most innovative and comprehensive brain tumor specialty programs. Created in 2002, The New York Brain Tumor Center provides a truly multi-disciplinary approach to brain tumor treatment and care in a warm, compassionate environment. Hundreds of patients each year seek care at The New York Brain Tumor Center for malignant brain tumors, such as Glioblastoma Multiforme, Anaplastic Astrocytomas and Oligodendrogliomas, and Brain Metastases, as well as for benign central nervous system tumors such as Acoustic Neuromas and Meningiomas.

A full spectrum of brain tumor treatment options is available at The New York Brain Tumor Center including surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The New York Brain Tumor Center is the only program in New York City currently providing GliaSite brachytherapy, a type of high dose localized radiation treatment. It is also one of only a few programs that can provide access to both Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery and LINAC Stereotactic Radiosurgery; both are ways of delivering highly focused radiation therapy to treat certain types of tumors.

Our core team includes experts in Neuro-Oncology, Neurology, Neurological Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Neuroradiology and Neuropathology. In addition, consultation is available for management of seizures and other neurological symptoms, pain management, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Psychology/Psychiatry, physical therapy/rehabilitation, social work, nutrition, palliative care and general medical care. Our team works closely with the Cornell Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) program to explore ways of improving quality of life and providing CAM for brain tumor patients.

A broad spectrum of brain tumor clinical trials is available through The New York Brain Tumor Project, the research arm of The New York Brain Tumor Center. These trials include studies of both surgical and non-surgical treatments. A team of laboratory researchers serves to help to provide an understanding of the mechanisms behind brain tumor therapies, and works closely with clinical team members to develop and test potentially beneficial, novel brain tumor therapies and treatment combinations. Our Neuroradiology and Neuropathology experts are working with our clinical team members to develop ways of non-invasively understanding effects of brain tumor therapies, and from this work, to help individualize treatment. Our neurosurgeons also work with other experts in such diverse fields as biomedical engineering and biochemistry to create new delivery techniques for brain tumors.
